City of Coquitlam
Coquitlam is a dynamic city in the heart of the Lower Mainland with a commitment to community-based living. Strategically located between the Fraser River to the south and the coastal mountains to the north and bordered by the cities of Burnaby, New Westmister, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, it is only a 30-minute drive to downtown Vancouver. This diverse community with a population of over 110,000, features a pedestrian-oriented Town Centre which includes an aquatic complex, stadium, cultural centre, community centre and shopping mall, plus Douglas college campus. Other features include the recently developed Westwood Plateau, a prime residential development; the French-Canadian flavoured community of Maillardville, once the largest Francophone centre west of Manitoba, and Minnekhada Regional Park.

Coquitlam is a great place to raise children and the public schools always rank high for student academic achievement for all of Greater Vancouver schools.

Business corridors can be found along Austin Avenue, North Road, West Brunette Avenue, Lougheed & Barnet Highways, & United Boulevard. Coquitlam Centre Shopping Mall is the hub of shopping located in the Town Centre area in Northeast Coquitlam. The proposed Evergreen Skytrain line will have a stop nearby.

Across the street from Coquitlam Centre is the The West Coast Express which takes weekday morning commuters downtown in 30 minutes. Car parking and bicycle lockers are available in the adjacent parking lot for an economical price.

Coquitlam's Park system has something for everyone with the many large, medium and small green spaces located throughout the city. Mundy Park has a great system of forested walking/running trails, Colony Farm is a popular location for cyclists and walkers, Minnekhada is a hikers oasis bordering on the Pitt River, Blue Mountain is an urban family friendly park with water park, playground, wading pool and sports field, and Pinecone-Burke Provincial Park is great for back country enthusiasts.

Coquitlam harbours a diverse cultural background with diverse cultural pockets of the city such as west Coquitlam with its large number of Korean businesses and residents and the town centre & Westwood Plataeau area with its many Chinese businesses and residents. The Maillardville area in South Coquitlam is one of the oldest French-Canadian communities in Greater Vancouver and the Societe' Francophone de Maillardville host their Festival du Bois every March.

Coquitlam has a strong community sports culture with an array of sports clubs such as lacrosse, hockey, baseball, softball, swimming, football & soccer. 2001 Mann Cup Champions Coquitlam Adanacs play out of the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex & the famed Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club makes its home here.

Famous Coquitlam alumni include Canadian singer Matthew Good and former professional soccer players Craig Forrest and David Norman.

A belated thank-you for all the help in my harebrained scheme to move to Canyon Springs. Others should be so lucky to receive such exemplary service when they buy and sell properties. I\'m hoping to stay put (unless I win the lotto) but should I require a realtor\'s services again, I know who to call.
